Once you write your first eBook, and it’s edited and formatted, KDP allows publishers to release it on their platform for free. (KDP also gives you the option to sell your book in hardcopy format, but we’re mostly focusing on eBooks.)
Within just 72 hours, your eBook will be available to millions of potential readers around the world through the Kindle store. We’re talking about people in Australia, China, South America, India, Europe, Canada, and more.
And the best part is that KDP gives publishers a 70% royalty on each sale. (To earn 70%, you have to set your book’s list price between $2.99 and $9.99, which is what we recommend most publishers do.)
Amazon’s KDP is by far the easiest way to get your work out there and start earning extra money. And with KDP, you always have the ability to change your book whenever you want. Maybe you want to tweak the text, fix an error you found or just update the cover. No problem! You won’t need to ask for permission from your agent or a big-name publishing house.

So if your book gets 100,000 page reads, and Amazon’s page count rate is $0.0045 per page (the rate varies), you’ll make $450. Not bad!
Publishers can also make more money by converting their eBook into an audiobook which can be listed on Amazon’s Audible. This is a super easy way to take your already-existing manuscript and simply put it into a different format to create another income stream. It’s almost like free money!
Kindle Vella is a fun, gamified way to publish your book one episode (chapter) at a time. Here's how Kindle Vella works. Readers buy tokens to unlock more chapters as they read. You get 50% of the money that comes in from these tokens.
And keep in mind that all these income streams are what’s called passive income. This means you aren’t trading your time to earn it (that’s called active income). These Kindle Vella royalties are automatically coming in—even while you’re sleeping!
